Mercedes GLS spied ahead of Detroit debut
Mercedes GL to become GLS following unveiling at the Detroit Motor Show in January
The Mercedes GL seven-seat SUV will be rebranded as the GLS and be facelifted in time for the Detroit Motor Show in January.
As our latest spy pictures show, the 4x4 is set to get a light refresh in order to keep it competitive with the all-new Audi Q7. However the nip-and-tuck could only extend the life of Merc's SUV by another year, as a completely new model is expected in 2017.
The GLS gets a subtly revised front end with new LED lights, an updated grille and a resculpted front bumper.
The rear bumper gets the same treatment, with LED units also expected. The interior is likely to get some new materials, and the now familiar tablet-style infotainment screen that debuted with the Mercedes C-Class.

The concise engine range is unlikely to change much, with the 350 CDI diesel (which returns 35mpg) and scorching twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 petrol likely to get minor efficiency tweaks. There is no indication the cosseting air-suspension will receive any changes.
